Young man charged with riot and affray after brawl in which gang of youths allegedly assaulted a lone teen at Manly

A teenager has been charged with riot and affray after allegedly being involved in a massive brawl on Sydney’s northern beaches last week in which another teen was allegedly attacked.

Police were called to Manly Wharf on The Esplanade following reports of about 30 people fighting shortly after 9pm last Monday, January 6.

Witnesses said a teenage boy, who is yet to be identified, was under attack by a number of people on the street.

The group dispersed as police arrived.

The witnesses who intervened were also allegedly assaulted.

One witness told The Manly Observer that the boy was “screaming for his life”, and a knife was found after the group dispersed.

Following an investigation, an 18-year-old was arrested at Bonnyrigg about 7.30pm on Friday and charged with one count each of riot and affray, police said on Monday.

He was granted conditional bail to appear in Manly Local Court on January 29.

Police said investigations are still ongoing.
