A group of good Samaritans teamed up with law enforcement this week to save an elderly woman pinned underneath her car in Lawerence, Mass.
Caught on video Thursday afternoon, shortly after 1 p.m., 73-year-old Zoa Mendez was making flower deliveries when her car, accidentally left in drive, rolled onto her.
Several witnesses say they heard screams and cries for help, capturing the entire neighbourhood’s attention. That’s when over a dozen people, many of them strangers, ran over to help.
“She was screaming for help and she’s grabbing on my leg and I’m just trying to lift up the car,” said Elvis Burgos.
Yanet Minaya, an employee working at a nearby corner store, recalls seeing several officers along with strangers hoisting the vehicle halfway to help pull the woman out.
“They were just lifting the car, almost half of it to the top,” she said. “A lot of people helped her. I don’t what would have happened if she did not have no one help her.”
In addition to the team effort, others say nearby drivers had pulled over to ensure Mendez was okay.
She was eventually saved and rushed to hospital with injuries to her legs, though officials say she is expected to recover.
