A 20-year-old man died and four others were injured when their car crashed into a road divider at high speed on a Karnataka highway, said officials on Tuesday.
The vehicle struck a divider on a highway near Kattihosahalli, in Doddaballapur taluk, and flipped over multiple times before coming to rest on its side.
The force of the crash was so intense that two passengers were seen flying out of the car and thrown onto the road. A video of the incident surfaced on social media.
Authorities said that the car was travelling from Dharwad to Vijayapura when the accident occurred. The video footage of the incident showed the car speeding along the highway, before it veered off course, hitting the divider and vaulting onto the traffic island.
The car then rolled several times, sending debris flying and ejecting two of the occupants. The car eventually landed on its side, with one of its wheels continuing to spin after the vehicle stopped.
According to police, the driver of the car, Mohammad Yunus, died from his injuries despite being rushed for medical treatment. Four other passengers sustained injuries and were hospitalised. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
