The Attico Spring 2023 Ready-to-Wear Collection

Gilda Ambrosio and Giorgia Tordini are in the mood for love for spring. Just do not imagine anything romantic or overtly sentimental. The Attico designers do not wear their hearts on their sleeves—partly because sleeves are often absent from the slinky, revealing party numbers they favor. That said, they’re intense and rather passionate when it comes to express their feelings.

“Getting dressed is often an emotional act, something that goes deeper than just delving into your closet and grabbing a frock to go somewhere,” they mused. “There’s an intimate relationship between a woman and her dress.” With the help of friend Mariacarla Boscono, who has the expressive talent of an actress, they staged a sort of cinematic moment, shooting the lookbook in an empty studio filled only with a huge sofa and a massive square-shaped cushion upholstered in red vinyl. They imagined the space as a frame for the mindset of a woman in love, and let Mariacarla be the interpreter of the rollercoaster moods that go with the condition.

That being in love moves often seamlessly to and fro from lust to rage is stating the obvious. Giorgia and Gilda have created a wardrobe to navigate that territory in a style as seductive as can be.mQuivering feathers were teasing and sensual on tops and minidresses; sequins hinted at the desire to shine and attract; and effusive ruffles and ribbons conveyed exuberance. Reds of all shades dominated the palette, and lacquered jersey gave surfaces a glossy, liquid glow.

As always with The Attico, the tomboy coexisted with the siren. Oversized pantsuits, roomy many-pocketed trench coats, and a new version of their best-selling cargos underlined the nuanced, multifaceted nature of the feminine which is dear to Giorgia and Gilda. “Being in love is exciting,” they stated. “But we’d rather be in charge. Being vulnerable isn’t such an attractive option really.”
