Seven horses vie for PSA Cup


Seven horses, including coupled entry Truly Ponti and Dragon Butterfly, are vying for top honors in today’s Philippine Racing Commission (Philracom)-sponsored Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) Cup at the San Lazaro Business and Leisure Park in Carmona, Cavite.

The event that will benefit members of the oldest media organization in the country will serve as an appetizer to the much-awaited comeback of the Gran Copa de Manila—the highlight of the “Araw ng Maynila Racing Festival.”

This marks the second time that Philracom, under the leadership of chair Reli de Leon, will be staging the PSA Cup.

Out to give Truly Ponti and Dragon Butterfly stiff challenge in the event that will be disputed over a distance of 1,600 meters are Crowded Trade, Super Ninja, Darleb, Shastaloo and Time For Glory.

The winner of the event also honoring former Manila Mayor Mel Lopez gets the top purse of P300,000 while the second and third placers will receive P112,500 and 62,500, respectively.

Eight other special races will also be held in honor of former Manila Mayors Jose Atienza Jr., Joseph Estrada, Ramon Bagatsing, Antonio Villegas, Arsenio Lacson Sr., Manuel de la Fuente, Valeriano Fugoso and Arsenio Herrera (the first Mayor of Manila).
