At long last, Robert MacIntyre gets to taste sweet victory on the PGA Tour.
The Scottish golfer hoisted his first trophy on the tour, winning the RBC Canadian Open at Hamilton Golf and Country Club after holding onto his lead by shooting a 2-under 68 in the final round on Sunday. He finished the tournament -16 overall to win by one shot.
MacIntyre was steady in the first two rounds, picking up 10 birdies and no bogeys ahead of the weekend. He then followed it up with a 4-under 66 on Saturday after he eagled hole 17 to help cement his lead heading into the final round.
His father was his caddie for his big win.
The 27-year-old had previously won two tournaments on the European Tour but was winless in 44 career PGA Tour starts.
American Benjamin Griffin finished in second after finishing with three birdies in his final four holes. He finished the day with a 5-under 65 and -15 overall, but MacIntyre kept his composure on the final stretch to close out the win.
Canada’s Corey Conners made a strong push in the final round, finishing with a 5-under 65 to bring him into solo sixth at -12, but was too far back coming into Sunday to really make a run at the top spot.
Hometown golfer Mackenzie Hughes was tied with Ryan Fox and Ben Griffin for second place heading into the final round but had an up-and-down Sunday to finish with an even 70 and 10-under for the tournament, tying for seventh.
