Inspired by the “6 God” himself, Drake and his betting habits, The Scarborough Health Network (SHN) is launching a campaign aimed to draw attention to the Networks need for sustainable and ongoing funding.

Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2024 is the official Day of Giving and SHN is saying its homepage is being STAKE-ied – paying homage to the online betting platform Drake holds an ownership stake in.

During the campaign, individuals can place Over/Under wagers on the vital health services offered by the three Scarborough hospitals and “help break the Drake sportsbetting curse.”

Some of the examples at Betonus.ca include:

– How many babies will be delivered on Giving Tuesday across their network?

– How many dialysis treatments will their hospitals perform on Giving Tuesday?

Each “bet” on how many life-changing services they will provide on Giving Tuesday is a “bet” on Scarborough hospitals, and all donations (starting on Nov. 1) are 2X matched until Dec. 31 thanks to the generosity of the Honey & Barry Sherman Legacy Foundation.

The campaign notes that despite serving 25% of the city’s residents, SHN receives only 1% of hospital donations, leading to significant challenges in meeting urgent healthcare needs in the Scarborough community.

The SHN has also enlisted some well-known Scarborough athletes who hail from there to draw attention to the campaign. That includes Jamaal Magloire, the former NBA all-star, NCAA champion at Kentucky and ex-Toronto Raptor and coach who is now a community advocate. Another is Paralympic track & field athlete Marissa Papaconstantinou, who received all of her primary care at SHN when she was growing up with her disability, and Toronto FC and Canadian national team legend Dwayne de Rosario.

You can also “bet” on whether Drake will “bet on us” by making a donation to the campaign.
