Ryan Lochte betrayed Playboy model wife amid divorce: Report

As the divorce proceedings between Ryan Lochte and estranged wife Kayla Rae Reid heat up, one person close to the family claims the former U.S. Olympian betrayed the Playboy model in more ways than one.

It appears there was a lot more going under the surface of the seemingly smooth waters.

The source, who is close to the family and knows both Kayla and Ryan, revealed some of the couple’s deeper problems recently to People.

The insider told the outlet that Lochte had forced his wife’s hand with his actions.

“He’s damaged so much of their marriage and he’s broken her heart so many times that she doesn’t know if reconciliation is in their future,” the insider said.

Lochte dismissed the insider’s claim in a statement to People, saying the divorce is “a difficult and very personal time.”

“Kayla and I both wish to keep this matter private for many reasons, most importantly, to protect our children,” he said. “For that reason, I also won’t be commenting on this matter, or replying to allegations made by third parties.”

The report comes after Reid had asked in divorce proceedings for exclusive use of the couple’s marital home.

According to court documents obtained by Us Magazine, the former Playboy model has demanded exclusive use of the marital home that she and the 12-time Olympic medallist own in Terrace, Fla.

“(Kayla) needs the exclusive use of this home and the contents thereof both now and in the future for herself and the minor children,” the filing reads.

The doc indicated Lochte has been staying in a separate home – valued at US$440,000 – since the couple split in March.

Reid also claims in her petition that, during their marriage, the former swimmer took several joint assets and income and used them to purchase other assets – some of which are in his name.

“(Those) assets are presently being held by (Ryan) in trust for and for all the benefit of (Kayla), and the court should award to (Kayla) her full interest in said assets,” her filing continued.

Reid is also asking for a piece of two business – Lochte Enterprises and Legendaryswimming – which she invested in with her estranged husband during their marriage.

While Reid filed for the divorce on March 26, the couple only announced the split earlier this month on their social media accounts. It was later reported that the couple is deeply in debt.

According to court documents obtained by Us Weekly, the estranged couple owes more than $369,000 to a variety of creditors, including the IRS.

The Daily Mail reported that Lochte and Reid have an unpaid balance of $136,000 to the Internal Revenue Service from the years 2021 and 2022.

On top of that, a lien was filed by Shands Teaching Hospital and Clinic for a total of nearly $230,000 stemming from two separate incidents. The first reportedly occurred in November 2023 when Lochte is said to have spent two days in a Gainesville medical facility for an unspecified treatment, accruing $175,000 in unpaid bills, and another instance in February 2024 for an additional $54,000.

Additionally, a lien of more than $3,000 was filed in December 2024 on their Gainesville, Fla., property by the local homeowners association. The Fletcher Park Owner’s Association reportedly cited Lochte and Reid for several “unpaid” fees, including “special assessments, late fees, costs of collection (and) attorney’s fees.”

Lochte’s legal team has yet to respond to Us Weekly’s request for comment on the situation.

Lochte and Reid share three children: Son Caiden Zane, 7, and daughters Liv Rae, 6, and Georgia June, who turns 2 on June 22.
