A 45-year-old man — the woman’s former partner, handed himself into police on Thursday morning.
He has now been charged with grievous bodily harm with intent to murder, and breaching an AVO.
The woman was treated by paramedics before being taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital where she remains in a stable condition.
Witnesses to the incident reported hearing the woman scream as she approached her car.
“It was not a normal scream,” one woman said.
Another witness saw the woman helped upstairs into the gym, where staff began first aid.
“She ran all the way upstairs, she was bleeding from the neck, from her ears,” he said.
The accused, from North Manly, was refused bail and will appear in Manley Local Court on Friday.
