NSW COVID cases today: Pressure mounts on Health department as hospitalisations climb on another deadly day


Pressure on the NSW health system is continuing to mount with more people admitted to hospital to treat the effects of COVID-19.

Another 48,768 COVID-19 cases were announced on Saturday as the state continues to works through a backlog of results from rapid at-home tests, which were only able to be reported from Wednesday.

Of those infections, 21,748 were reported through RATs and 27,020 came from PCR tests.

The number of patients in hospital is still steadily climbing, now at 2576, but is expected to plateau next week.

Some 193 people are in intensive care.

NSW Health also reported the deaths of 20 people in the state.
