Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway Drops an Epic First Trailer
Set after the events of Char’s Counterattack, Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway tells the story of Bright Noa’s son and the experimental RX-105 Xi Gundam.
A new, action-packed trailer for Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway has been released, whetting fans’ appetite for the movie’s upcoming debut on Netflix.
The new trailer was released on the official Gundam YouTube channel, and shows off plenty of series’ trademark political intrigue and gritty mecha action. The trailer also reveals that Hathaway will be available on Netflix in all territories outside of Japan on July 1, less than three weeks after the movie’s debut in Japanese theaters. The movie was written by Yasuyuki Muto, who previously worked on Gundam: Build Divers and the Gundam: Unicorn OVAs and TV series. Animation production is once again handled by Sunrise.
Set in the Universal Century timeline, Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway tells the story of Hathaway Noa, the son of the original series’ Bright Noa. 12 years after the events of Char’s Counterattack, Hathaway joins the terrorist organization Mafty and becomes the pilot of experimental RX-105 Xi Gundam in order to stop what he perceives as corrupt and tyrannical practices by the Earth Federation, which has amassed an unprecedented amount of power in the absence of Zeon. The Hathaway film is the first part of a planned trilogy based on the Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway’s Flash series of novels, which were written by original Gundam director Yoshiyuki Tomino.
Hathaway is the latest entry in the Gundam franchise to be distributed on Netflix. Gundam UC and Iron Blooded Orphans are already available on the streaming service, and Netflix has announced that the original 1979 anime and the critically acclaimed Char’s Counterattack feature film will premiere on June 18.
