KBLA 1580 Talk Radio host Robin Ayers dead at 44, just one year after revealing rare cancer diagnosis

US radio host Robin Ayers has died aged 44, her employer confirmed.

The LA-based entertainment reporter and radio star had worked for KBLA 1580 Talk Radio for the past seven years.

KBLA 1580 Talk Radio said in a statement that she died on Thursday but did not release a cause of death.

Her colleague Tavis Smiley said in an X tribute: “On behalf of her precious family, it is with profound sadness that KBLA Talk 1580 announces the passing of our beloved colleague Robin Ayers on Thursday, December 05.”

“Robin was a bright light. You could see her radiant smile through the radio.

“We all respected her immense talent, loved her jovial spirit, celebrated her love of family, and honoured her faith in God.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with Robin’s entire family, most especially her husband Rob and her twin daughters Brooklyn and Madison.

“We ask you to join us in praying for the Ayers family as they navigate the difficult days ahead. At the appropriate time, KBLA Talk 1580 will offer a special tribute to Robin.”

Ayers hosted her own weekday radio show The RA Report with Robin Ayers at KBLA 1580 Talk Radio.

The 44-year-old is mother to twin daughters who have just celebrated their 18th birthday.

On December 2 Ayers documented her family’s holiday in New York City to celebrate the milestone in what would be her final Instagram post.

“NYC with the fam! Celebrating Thanksgiving and the twins’ 18th bday! Whoa 🤯 🔥🔥🔥,” she wrote.

She was also an author, publishing the book Unspoken Language: Making Your Belief Speak for You in 2016.

In October 2023 Ayers said on Instagram that she had been diagnosed with leiomyosarcoma, a rare and aggressive cancer that forms in the smooth muscles of the body, which are involuntary muscles that help move substances such as nutrition and blood, according to Mayo Clinic.

Friends and fans alike have shared tributes on her Instagram page.

“Robin, this was your last post, what beautiful memories these are. I’m shocked and saddened by your passing,” one said.

“My deepest condolences to your husband and beautiful girls. Sending lots of love to everyone who had the honour of knowing you.”

“I am still in shock Robin. I’m sending you, your family and friends so much love,” said a second.

Another wrote: “Robin … thank you. Thank you for your smile, the laughter and the moments we shared. It doesn’t even feel right saying this, my heart is broken.”
