For those looking to emulate Princess Kate’s casual and effortless style, royal fashion fans know Kate often favours a pair of white Superga trainers – a brand known for its classic and minimalist design.
The canvas trainers often appear as a staple in the Princess of Wales’s wardrobe for casual engagements. For instance, Kate has been snapped wearing her 2750 Cotu Classic Canvas Trainers in the pouring rain in the Bahamas during a tour of the Caribbean in 2022, and on a visit to the Great Britain SailGP team in Plymouth in 2022.
Often paired with skinny jeans and sportswear, or with dresses and suits to give Kate’s look a softer edge, the affordable trainers with their clean lines and neutral colour palette, make them incredibly versatile.
Eager to test a go-to item in Princess Kate’s wardrobe, I ordered the exact same pair at a discounted rate on Amazon for only £25, (which was a bargain compared to the original price of £65 as noted on the brand’s website), and they arrived promptly, super white and super fresh looking.
Described on the brand’s website as the “fashion trainer of choice”, Superga says the trainers are “extra strong”, “fully breathable” and “timeless”. The trainers are also vegan-certified and eco-friendly, and do not contain any animal or animal-originated ingredients.
As soon as I unboxed the trainers, I noticed they were quite heavy for a slender trainer, but this reinforced the quality and durability of the item. Searching on YouTube, I proceeded to watch an official brand tutorial on the best way to lace up the trainers to match the ‘Princess Kate look’.
I instantly knew I could pair them with anything because of the neutral colour palette and opted for white linen trousers and a classic crew blue buttoned-up shirt for a hot British summer’s day.
Whether you’re running errands, on holiday, or simply enjoying a casual day out, the trainers will provide you with a snug and supportive fit – instantly. I found the classic lace-up design also allowed for some adjustability and extra tightness, depending on preference.
Once the trainers were firmly on my feet, I visited a park in Nottinghamshire, testing the vulcanised rubber sole on grass, gravel and stone – and found the rubber sole offered excellent traction whatever the surface.
Although I expected a little discomfort because the trainers were new, I was surprised to find I did not need to break them in, and they were instantly so comfy and can be worn straight from the box. Testing Princess Kate’s favourite Superga trainers felt like instantly stepping into royally-approved footwear!
I found they were the perfect blend of style and comfort, and could see myself wearing them for almost any casual outfit, rather than formal wear – they add a cool, laid-back vibe to any outfit without trying too hard.
As with any white trainer, one has to be really careful with maintenance and care. But the canvas material means any marks can be washed with mild soap and water to keep them looking pristine, but I would advise using a gentle fabric spray to guard against water damage.
Kate has made countless appearances wearing her favourite Superga 2750 Cotu Classic trainers and she has also been spotted wearing a green pair in her favourite style. I am also tempted to buy a darker shade for winter and for the colder months, but white looked fantastic out and about on a sunny day.
For those opting for more adventurous colours, there were a variety of shades available from ‘dark bordeaux’ to ‘grey ash’, so you can opt for the ‘Princess Kate look’ but with a personal twist.
