But there is a catch as the treatment is made from wild salmon DNA, or more specifically, sperm.
“The interesting thing about Rejuran is it’s derived from salmon sperm. (It is) purified and once it is purified it’s then injected into the skin,” Dr Tass Tassiopolous from the Dr Tass Cosmetic & Skin Clinic in Melbourne told 7NEWS.
“There is some redness and some fine bumps for about 24 hours after the treatment and maybe a little bit of itchiness.”
The treatment is slated to help brighten dark circles under eyes, fine lines and wrinkles, dull and saggy skin, scars and stretch marks.
It is now available in Australia after being hugely popular in Korea for around 10 years.
“I think Asians are really into skin treatment and also really looking for perfection for everything,” nurse Yang Liu said.
While there are no reported adverse side effects and it is TGA approved, there are not any in depth studies proving the product’s effectiveness.
The injectable also doesn’t come cheap and is $1000 for just the eyes or more than $2000 for the entire face.
At least three sessions are needed to begin with and then the user needs yearly top-ups.
Rejuran first gained traction when Kim Kardashian revealed to her mother on their reality TV show that she had had the treatment.
“Large cheeks and frozen faces are not the way this world of aesthetic medicine is moving. These days we’re looking at creating subtle differences and natural results,” Tassiopolous said.
