Delhi Congress chief Devender Yadav on Monday launched a membership drive of the Delhi Pradesh Youth Congress (DPYC) for its elections ahead of next year’s Assembly polls in the national capital. The DPYC delegates will also be eligible for Indian Youth Congress (IYC) elections.
“The DPYC aims to embrace Rahul Gandhi’s vision of ‘Neta Bano-Neta Chuno‘, (be a leader, choose your leader) advocating for enrolling a record number of young members. The Youth Congress serves as a vital gateway into politics, and Delhi, being the nation’s heartbeat, influences political currents across the country,” he said.
The Congress, which once ruled Delhi for 15 consecutive years (from 1998 to 2013), has drawn a blank in the 2015 and 2020 Assembly elections. The party also failed to open its account in the 2014, 2019 and 2024 Lok Sabha polls.
However, the party is aiming to re-establish its dominance in the national capital after an improved showing in the Lok Sabha elections.
Yadav said that Rahul Gandhi’s proposition to conduct democratic elections for Youth Congress office-bearers ensured equal opportunities for individuals from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds.
“This would enable talented individuals to ascend to prominent positions within the party. By expanding youth membership, we believe the DPYC will cultivate capable leaders who can offer competent and dynamic leadership to the nation,” he said.
Former MLA and Chairman of the Communications Department Anil Bhardwaj, IYC General Secretary and Delhi in-charge Poorna Chandra Pandhi, Secretary in-charge Kushboo Sharma, DPYC President Ranvijay Singh Lochav, IYC Secretary Rishi Bhargawa, PRO Mukul Gupta, IYC Election Commissioner Maqsud Mirza, DPYC Working President Subham Sharma, and numerous Youth Congress workers attended the party’s membership drive.
“The challenges posed by the upcoming assembly elections slated for February next year are that the Delhi Congress and its affiliate organisations must labour diligently to expose the BJP’s authoritarianism and the AAP government’s corruption and failures. These act as a precursor to restoring Congress’s dominance in the capital,” Yadav further said.
