As the year inches towards its end, Ben Affleck is feeling “grateful” for getting a second chance with one-time love Jennifer Lopez.
The Oscar winner, who rekindled his romance with the pop star earlier this year, briefly opened up on the relationship in a profile with WSJ Journal Magazine .
“I can say that it’s definitely beautiful to me,” Affleck, 49, said. “And, you know, one of the things I really value across all facets of my life now is that it was handled in a way that reflected that. My life now reflects not just the person that I want to be, but the person that I really feel like I am — which is not perfect, but somebody who tries very hard and cares very much about being honest and authentic and accountable.”
Affleck wouldn’t reveal how the pair reconnected, but did say his reunion with Lopez, 52, came about organically.
“I could just say that I feel great about being very healthy,” he said. “And it is a good story. It’s a great story. And, you know, maybe one day I’ll tell it. I’ll write it all out, he said. And then I’ll light it on fire.”
The Tender Bar star went on to add that he was buoyed by getting another chance — both in his career and his personal life.
“Life is difficult, and we are always failing and hopefully learning from those failures,” he said.
“I am very lucky in my life in that I have benefited from second chances, and I am aware that other people don’t even get first chances. I’ve had second chances in my career. I’ve had second chances as a human being.”
Affleck and Lopez started dating 20 years ago after they met on the set of Gigli and they were engaged from 2002 to 2004. Dubbed “Bennifer,” the twosome’s romance was tabloid fodder highlighted by glitzy movie premieres and a 6.1 carat, pink diamond engagement ring. But the couple called off their wedding at the last-minute in 2003 and ended their relationship a few months later.
“Jennifer always saw Ben as the one that got away,” an insider told Page Six in June. “She was crushed after they broke up, though she felt at the time that she had no other choice but to call off their engagement.”

Page Six’s source added, “As hot and heavy as their relationship was, they were on very different paths at the end of it. Jennifer was ready to settle down and have kids, but Ben wasn’t keen on giving up his bachelor lifestyle just yet. In the end, she got tired of waiting for him to come around — even though it broke her heart to end things.”
After their breakup, Lopez moved on with Marc Anthony, with whom she had two children, while Affleck married Jennifer Garner and became a father to three. Both unions ended in divorce.
The former flames rekindled their old romance in April after Lopez broke off her engagement with retired baseball slugger Alex Rodriguez.
