Body found near Sydney Airport identified as Zhuojun ‘Sally’ Li, police hold ‘grave concerns’ for missing husband

The woman whose body was found wrapped in plastic near Sydney Airport last week has been identified, as police say they hold “grave concerns” for her missing husband.

Zhuojun ‘Sally’ Li, 33, was found dead in dense scrub in Sir Joseph Banks Park in Botany on Monday morning by a passing jogger.

Her body was severely decomposed and a number of items, including a pair of high heels, were found at the scene.

On Saturday, police revealed the Greenacre woman had been reported missing earlier this month after her mother was unable to reach her.

There is also now a public appeal for help in locating Li’s husband Jai-Bao ‘Rex’ Chen, who along with his wife, has not been seen since the end of November.

Detective Superintendent Danny Doherty said it was unclear if the 33-year-old was a suspect or a victim.

“Whether he’s alive or dead, that’s the question,” he said.

Investigators, however, do believe a third party was involved because of CCTV police have collected of a car stopping near where Li’s body was discovered.

The silver Toyota Avensis, which does not belong to Li or Chen, stopped on the northern side of Foreshore Rd between 4am and 5am on November 30, just over a week before she was found.

Doherty said police believe the vehicle was used to transport Li’s body to the scene.

The vehicle has been seized and is being forensically examined. No one connected to the car has been spoken to.

“We’re appealing for anyone that has information about that car, or the driver of that car, or who may have any knowledge of the user of that vehicle to come forward,” Doherty said.

“It’s crucial to the investigation.”

Li is originally from China but has been living in Australia for about 20 years, while Chen is from Taiwan.

Doherty said Chen has not left the country and that police have spoken to his family overseas.

“There is no, for Sally anyway, links to any criminality or any organised crime or anything like that,” he said.

“Rex had some minor issues in the past, but nothing that really gives a strong indication that they were involved in any wrongdoing, or any mixed up in any organised crime.

“It’s a bit of a mystery … why she would be killed.

“But again, we have to keep an open mind about motives and who may have wanted to harm her.”

Doherty said Li’s family were only notified of her death on Friday night and that they were “obviously devastated”.

“(Her mother) was with the investigators last night having been told the very tragic news her daughter not only is dead, but we now suspect her of being murdered,” he said.

Chen is described as being of Asian appearance, about 165cm to 170cm tall, with a slim build, black hair and brown eyes.

Anyone who has any dashcam footage from Foreshore Rd around 4am or 5am on November 30 has been urged to come forward.
