A drunk driver crashed his car into a family riding a bike, resulting in the deaths of a mother and her six-year-old daughter on the Latur-Ausa highway in Maharashtra on Saturday.
The crash followed a minor altercation between the two drivers over reckless driving.
The accident occurred on the evening of September 29. According to reports, Sadiq Sheikh was travelling with his wife, Ikra Sheikh, and their two children, Nadia, 6, and Ahad, when a speeding car driven by a man under the influence cut them off dangerously. After the near-miss, Sadiq approached the driver and politely requested him to drive more carefully.
This brief exchange escalated into a heated argument, after which the enraged car driver allowed Sadiq to pass but soon rammed his vehicle into the family’s bike from behind.
The impact of the crash was devastating, killing Ikra and young Nadia on the spot. Sadiq and his son Ahad were critically injured and rushed to Latur’s government hospital for treatment.
Police Inspector Sunil Rajitwad from Ausa Police Station provided further details, confirming that the driver and four others present in the vehicle—Digambar Patole, Krishna Waghe, Basavaraj Dhotre, Manoj Mane, and another person—have been arrested.
An FIR has been filed under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including those related to reckless driving and causing death by negligence.
