Men aged 35 to 54 are Australia’s highest earners with an average salary of $103,955, according to Canstar data.
Close behind are men aged 45 to 54, who bring home an average salary of $101,400.
Meanwhile, women in the same age brackets take home just $83,200 and $85,800 on average respectively — or a difference of $20,755 and $15,600.

Australia’s lowest earners are aged 15 to 24, although females earn more than their male counterparts in this group.
Male workers aged 15 to 19 make an average salary of $40,144, while men aged 20 to 24 earn an average $61,234.
Women in the same age brackets earn $42,540 and $62,098 on average respectively — or a difference in their favour of $2396 and $864.
In the 25 to 34 age bracket, men earn $83,200 on average which is $5200 more in their pockets on average than women the same age, who earn $78,000 in comparison.
Women’s average salaries do not catch up to their male counterparts again, according to Canstar’s report.
The average Australian salary has now risen to just over $100,000, according to new data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS).
This is a 4.6 per cent increase on the past financial year.
Full-time workers get pay rise
The average full-time worker now takes home $1994.30 each week, or $103,703.60 annually.
For those not working full-time, the average salary drops to $1480.90 per week or $77,006.80 annually — an increase of 5.8 per cent on the previous financial year.
Men make $301.90 per week more than women on average, according to the ABS data.
Full-time male workers take home $2112.90 per week on average, or $109,870.80 annually.
Full-time female workers take home $1811 per week on average, or $94,172 annually.
This is a difference of $15,698.8 per year.
For those not working full-time, this wage gap grows to almost $500 at $477.40.
The average salary for men per week is $1723.80, or $89,637.60 annually, while the average salary for women per week is $1246.40
or $64,812.80. This is a difference of $24,824.80 per year.
Workers in the public sector make $205.10 more per week on average than those in the private sector, according to ABS data.
Full-time workers in the public sector make $2156.60 per week on average, or $112,143.20 annually.
Full-time workers in the private sector make $1951.50 per week on average, or $101,478 annually.
Sectors with the highest salaries
The mining sector offers the highest salary, with an average weekly salary of $3015.30 or $156,795.60 annually.
Men working in the mining sector make an average weekly salary of $3107, or $161,564 annually, while women make an average weekly salary of $2651.60, or $137,883.20 annually. This is a difference of $23,680.80 per year.
The next most lucrative sector is the information media and telecommunications sector, with an average weekly salary of $2437.20 or $126,734.40 annually.
Men working in the information media and telecommunications sector make an average weekly salary of $2582.90, or $134,310.80 annually, while women make an average weekly salary of $2144, or $111,488 annually. This is a difference of $22,822.80 per year.
In third place, workers in the financial and insurance services sector take home an average weekly salary of $2283.20, or $118,726.40 annually.
Male workers take home an average weekly salary of $2497.90, or $129,890.80 annually, while female workers make an average weekly salary of $2048.20, or $106,506.40 annually. This is a difference of $23,384.40 per year.
Workers in the professional, scientific and technical services sector take home the fourth-highest pay packet per week, with an average weekly pay of $2245.40, or $116,760.80 annually.
Male workers take home an average weekly salary of $2448.60, or $127,327.20 annually, while female workers make an average weekly salary of $1926.90, or $100,198.80 annually. This is a difference of $27,128.4 per year.
In fifth place, workers in the electricity, gas, water and waste services sector make an average pay per week of $2243.80, or $116,677.60 annually.
Men working in this sector make an average weekly salary of $2307.10, or $119,969.20 annually, while women make an average weekly salary of $2,033.30, or $105,731.60 annually. This is a difference of $14,237.60 per year.
Where Aussie workers earn the most
Workers in the Australian Capital Territory earned the most on average, though men working in Western Australia earned more.
The average worker in the ACT earns $2126.50 weekly, or $110,578 annually.
Men in the ACT take home $2215.30 per week on average, or $115,195.60 annually, while women earn an average weekly pay of $2027.30, or $105,419.60 annually. This is a difference of $9776 per year.
The average worker in WA earns $2094.30, or $108,903.60 annually.
Men in WA take home $2257.60 per week on average, or $117,395.20 annually, while women earn an average weekly pay of $1819.70, or $94,624.40 annually. This is a difference of $22,770.80 per year.
This means that while the average pay is higher in the ACT, men make $2199.60 more in WA on average.
