A family from Sydney’s Northern Beaches have detailed their close call after a huge tree crashed through their roof and into their baby’s bedroom.
Mother Keisha Ferguson said the tree fell onto nine-month-old Ned’s cot just after 8.30pm while he was sleeping at their Avalon home last week during intense storms.
After a mad rush to the bedroom to check, Ferguson found that, incredibly, Ned was not hurt in the accident.
“It’s surreal to think we were in there … and it all happened so quickly and the sound of the tree coming down … there was just no warning,” she said.
“You think your kids are in a safe place, and we are just innocently putting our kids to sleep like everyone does every night, and to think it could just come down like that … there was no warning it just fell in one piece on top of us.”
Incredible footage from the baby monitor shows the tree come crashing down and completely destroying the bed, while Ferguson is heard screaming: “Oh my god! My baby, are you all right?”
“We didn’t even know what it was at the time … but then when you watch the footage back, you see how close it was,” Ferguson said.
“When you look at where we were standing in that room, it’s a miracle we walked out with a couple of scratches.”
One week on, and the Ferguson family said they were told to go buy Lotto tickets after their incredible stroke of luck.
“He’s a little miracle boy … he was just fast asleep, happy as,” Ferguson said.
The family added they are yet to put Ned back to sleep in the room, but hope one day the shock will wear off.
