15 people of Kuki community released from Manipur Central Jail

The Manipur government on Sunday released at least 15 prisoners who were kept at the Manipur Central Jail after being arrested in cases related to drugs, extortion, blackmail, attempt to murder and other cases registered under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

All 15 prisoners, who belonged to the Kuki community, were handed over to the chairman of the Committee On Tribal Unity (CoTU) after their release by the officials.

The cases against the 15 prisoners were registered at several police stations in Churachandpur, Singhat, Kangpokpi, Sapermeina, Kakching, Patsoi, Lamshang, Lamphel, and other areas of the state.

The handing and taking memo, which was signed by both the releasing official and CoTU chairman, mentioned that all 15 individuals were released after the assent of the concerned court of Manipur Central Jail.

The 15 prisoners were identified as– Jamgoulen Haokip (33), Lunminthang Haokip (33), Lhunkhopao Baite (33), Paominlal Misao (23), Shokhogin Haokip (46), Seiminlal Haokip alias Lalboi (34), Thangkholen Haokip (42), Lunminsang Haokip (22), Thongkhohao haokip (42), Satminlun Tuboi (24), T Lunkhomang Haokip (37) Chungkhomang Kipgen (41) Nehminthang Kipgen (38), Letminching (46) and Len David Suantak (20).

According to the police, most of the released prisoners were arrested in 2022.
