CPI’s criticises Kerala’s ruling Left alliance after poor Lok Sabha performance

The Kerala unit of the Communist Party of India (CPI), while deliberating on the recent Lok Sabha poll, has cited the failure of the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government in Kerala as a major factor contributing to the coalition’s poor performance in the recently concluded Lok Sabha polls.

In its state executive meeting, the CPI also questioned the state Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and his style of functioning.

In the meeting, the Kerala unit of CPI also condemned the functioning of the Left Convener and top CPI (M) leader, EP Jayarajan.

Jayarajan and the way he had been conducting himself, especially disclosing the information that BJP veteran Prakash Javadekhar had come to meet him in the state capital city, came under fire.

CPI concluded that Jayarajan had to be moved out.

The CPI also questioned the Nava Kerala Sadass initiative of the state government where the Chief Minister and ministers travel across constituencies to meet people.

The CPI termed it a “failure” as it failed to garner support for the LDF in the Lok Sabha polls.

The party said it would have been better if there was a focus on conducting political rallies by the LDF rallies across Kerala instead of the Nava Kerala Sadass scheme.

Earlier, CPI State Secretary Binoy Viswam had criticised the student wing of CPI(M) the SFI, for its functioning style, saying that it was not working as a leftist student organisation, and it had changed its ways.

Notably, in the Lok Sabha polls, while the LDF vote share came down by nearly 3 per cent, it succeeded only in winning one of the 20 seats on offer.

Its principal rival, UDF, too suffered a 2 per cent drop in vote share compared to 2019 but won 18 seats. Meanwhile, the BJP also won one seat in the state.
